Material properties of teak
Material properties of teak
Teakoutlet uses only high-quality teak from Indonesian plantations.
Teak is one of the most durable and valuable timbers in the world. It easily withstands moisture, sun, frost, and temperature fluctuations.
It is therefore particularly suitable for continuous outdoor use - without any additional surface protection.
Our teak furniture is delivered in its natural state, as the majority of buyers prefer to display it outdoors without any paint. Over time, the wood develops a beautiful silver-gray patina due to weathering.
Teak is a natural product and therefore its grain varies from piece to piece. The wood must be pre-dried for processing, and this occasionally results in a reddish tint. However, UV rays in sunlight will cause these discolorations to disappear within a few weeks. Hairline cracks may appear on the surface, especially on the ends of the wood. This is also a natural phenomenon and does not affect the stability or durability of the furniture in any way.
Care of teak wood
Care of teak wood
Teak furniture is best cleaned twice a year with a brush and green soap, preferably in warm (but not hot) water. This prevents dirt from settling deep into the pores of the wood. Green soap is available as a standard liquid or neutral soap at any drugstore.
You can also use a high-pressure cleaner to clean our teak furniture - with the exception of the garden chests. Since professionally cleaning teak furniture with a high-pressure cleaner requires a lot of experience, we advise against it! If you still want to use a high-pressure cleaner, please observe the following rules: Set the device to a maximum pressure of approx. 60 bar. Make sure to maintain a minimum distance of 30 cm between the nozzle and the wood. Only a triple nozzle guarantees the necessary gentle pressure jet. The rule of thumb here is: If the area treated with the high-pressure cleaner has turned completely brown again (i.e. the patina has been removed), the pressure was already too high! There is an immediate risk that excessive pressure will cause damage to the furniture, such as tearing of edges, loosening of glued joints, and extreme roughening of the surface. Never use the dirt blaster nozzle! Using the dirt blaster nozzle will roughen the surface of the wood too much and often even damage it directly.
If the furniture is cleaned thoroughly and completely, it will usually also become brighter.
Care of textiles
Care of textiles
All cushions have a core of fleece-covered foam. If necessary, you can order the filling separately from us.
All covers for our cushions are removable and made of high-quality Nagata drill. They can be carefully handwashed at 30°C using a mild detergent. Please do not dry clean. Covers can also be reordered individually.
To protect against dirt and moisture, we recommend our Fabric Protector and for occasional cleaning and removing individual stains, we recommend our Fabric Cleaner .
Care of fittings
Care of fittings
Brass fittings
Material properties
Where brass is used in our furniture, we only use fittings made of high-quality marine-grade brass.
Care
When cleaning your furniture, simply clean brass fittings with the green soap. Commercial polishing paste helps maintain the shine of the fittings.
Stainless steel fittings
Material properties
All stainless steel fittings used by Teakoutlet are made of stainless steel grade 304 (also known under the outdated designation "V2A") or, upon request and for an additional charge, also in grade 316.
Care
You can also easily clean the stainless steel fittings with the green soap when cleaning the furniture. For additional care, we recommend our special stainless steel care products.
Help against stains
Water stains
Water stains
EXPLANATION
These are part of the "normal" color change of untreated wood. The water washes out the pigments from the wood's interior (Important! Such "dye drops" can leave dark stains on the deck, especially on light-colored decking).
HOW DO YOU RELIEF?
Cleaning with green soap and root brush:
With each cleaning, the stains become slightly smaller and disappear after about three to four years.
Cleaning with the high-pressure cleaner:
Washes out the stains superficially. However, after some time, they reappear, less noticeable, and gradually disappear due to the graying effect.
Dark & black spots
Dark & black spots
EXPLANATION
If the furniture is constantly damp, mildew stains may form on the surface.
This is due to dirt deposits from the atmosphere or chemical reactions with components from the air.
HOW DO YOU RELIEF?
Cleaning with a high-pressure cleaner:
If the stains haven't been on for too long, they'll disappear when cleaned with a pressure washer. Treat only the stain, not the entire piece of furniture, and maintain a minimum distance of 30 cm!
Sanding:
Sanding with fine sandpaper also removes stains that have penetrated deeper into the wood grain.
Infestation with algae and mold
Infestation with algae and mold
EXPLANATION
Algae and mold are simple organisms that can colonize any organic material if there is sufficient moisture. Even dust deposits on inorganic building materials or the extremely resilient teak wood can serve as a habitat.
This is exacerbated by prolonged periods of humidity, which are increasingly common in European autumn and winter (when there is no frost). This results in wood moisture levels above 20%, especially in furniture kept outdoors (the usual wood moisture level in buildings is 8-15%), which promotes fungal infestation, especially if the furniture receives little direct sunlight during the winter months.
HOW DO YOU RELIEF?
Here we recommend the following products from our range: Teak Cleaner and then Teak Protector (to preserve the brown colour) or Teak Patinizer (to preserve the grey patina)
Areas of application:
Prevention and control of algae, moss and mold infestation on outdoor wooden furniture exposed to moisture.
The composition of the agent ensures diffusion into the affected materials.
Application:
- First brush off any mold or algae growth.
- Clean furniture thoroughly with Teak Cleaner and allow to dry
- Then, depending on the desired color, treat with Teak Protector (brown) or Teak Patinizer (grey) or regularly scrub the furniture vigorously with a brush and lukewarm soapy water.

Stains from grease, oil, wine & wax
HOW DO YOU RELIEF?
Cleaning with spirit or white spirit:
Fresh stains that have not yet penetrated deep into the wood can be removed in this way
Sanding:
Sanding with fine sandpaper also removes stains that have penetrated deeper into the wood grain.
